Joyce's Dream

Joyce Allis was our County Commissioner for ten yearsand later became County President and she worked tirelessly for Guiding in Birmingham.  It was always her wish to improve facilities provided at Trefoil Croft.  Sadly Joyce died in June 2000 but now we have had a chance to fulfil that dream in her memory. These improvements to the Brownie House will enable us to offer a holiday to more Members of our Movement.  The Brownie House is used throughout the year for holidays when Brownies enjoy living together and working together in the countryside.  They practice the skills and ideals they are taught in the weekly Pack meetings.  The house is also used for training - updating and extending the skills of the Leaders.

Trefoil Croft in Dodford near Bromsgrove is a chartist Cottage.  It was purchased by Birmingham Guide Association in 1965 and cost £7,500; Brownies, Guides and their Leaders raised the money. The house was given a major refurbishment with double glazed windows etc in 1985 costing £30,000.  The property now needs major repair and renovations if it is to continue to serve the needs of our Members.  We need to remove outbuildings, including the barn, which had become unstable.  The buildings need updating to improve our washing and toilet provision and to provide better facilities and access for the less able.

Rainbow, Brownie, Guide, and Senior Section Units across Birmingham County raised funds for Joyce's Dream by taking part in ‘Cook for the Croft’ between January and September 2004.    Fund raising activities during 2005 start with a fun quiz evening in April. IN June our Midsummer Madness is an afternoon for girls to learn circus skills, play games, try their hand at archery, etc.  In October the police choir will entertain us at Trefoil House.    Contact us for more information on all of these.

The coffee bar in the Trading Depot is open each Saturday in aid of Joyce's Dream.  It provides chance to meet friends and chat over a coffee when buying all your Guiding needs.
